Eat That Frog with a Pomodoro
To overcome procrastination by using the Pomodoro technique.
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. Each interval is known as a Pomodoro, from the Italian word for ‘tomato’.
To overcome procrastination by using the Pomodoro technique is a part of our project which I had to practice. For this I had to follow these following steps.
- Decide on the task to be done.
- Set the Pomodoro timer (alarm) to 25 minutes.
- Work on the task until the timer rings. If a distraction pops into your head, write it down, but immediately get back on the task.
- After the timer tings, put a star (or a tick) on a piece of paper.
- Take a short 3–5 minute break.
- Repeat steps 1–4
- After you have 4 ticks on your paper, you can take a longer break (15–20 minutes), and continue working on your task by going to step 1 until you complete your task.
I decided to complete my 2nd online course and started at 11am. I set alarm at 11:25am. I completed first 25 minutes without any distractions. I also completed next 25 minutes without involving in any distraction. Next 25 minutes were so hard. it’s hard for me because there were many things going on in my head but I just controlled my mind to erase any distractions and I did it.
This technique is very helpful. It makes us to be more focused and stuck to our goal.
